Today we’re taking a look at Creative’s PMP, the Zen X-Fi2, which is a 3 inch touchscreen unit available in three capacities, starting at 8GB, through 16 and ending up at 32 gigs of media zeroes and ones. Here’s a full list of the bits and pieces on the Creative Zen X-Fi2

The touchscreen functionality is, dare we say, a nice touch removing any ugly buttons from the front of the unit and the X-Fi2 also supports FLAC audio, a none too popular format amongst PMPs. The Creative website says there are four capacities available but don’t supply a price tag for the 64 GB so whilst we don’t doubt its existence we’re not totally convinced about its availability. The X-Fi2 is available at Amazon in its three capacities for the following price tags - $111 (8 GB), $141 (16 GB) and $202 (32 GB). We must admit these look like good prices to us for a touchscreen PMP, let us know what you think.

Ok, so Cowon’s latest PMP, the V5 HD, is currently only being launched in their homeland of Korea in January but surely a US and worldwide release will shortly follow. For those of you eager to see what Cowon have stuffed into the V5 here’s the list of impressive specs

* 4.8 inch 800 x 480 res touchscreen
* WinCE 6.0
* 720p HDMI output
* H.264 support
* SD memory card slot
* Wi-Fi connectivity
* 45 hours of audio playback on battery
* 10 hours of video playback on battery
* 128x82x15.7mm

Three versions of the V5 HD will be released with varying capacities at 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. The V5 will appear in Korea in the New Year with a price tag the equivalent of US$250 for the 8GB version. We must admit we’re not usually too impressed with Cowon PMP players but the V5 HD certainly seems to taken their range up a notch or two in our estimation. The 720p HDMI output with Wi-Fi connectivity turn this media player almost into a netbook. We’re not too sure what apps you can get for WinCE but we did only say ‘almost’ a netbook.

Finally Sony have unleashed their response to Apple’s iPod Touch with the X Series Walkman, which sports a 3 inch OLED touchscreen, Wi-Fi connectivity and 33 hours of music playback time. It comes in two capacities, namely 16 and 32 GB and has Slacker Radio integrated. Here are some more numbers on the Sony X Series Walkman

* 3 inch OLED WQVGA 432 x 240 res display
* Supports MP3/WMA/AAC/L-PCM audio formats
* Supports AVC(H.264/AVC)/MPEG-4/WMV video formats
* 2.2 x 3.9 x 0.5 inches
* 3.5 oz
* 5 band equalizer

The 32 GB version will set you back US$400 whilst the 16GB unit has a price tag of US$300, which match Apple’s prices for their iPod Touch exactly for similar capacities. The specs are relatively similar too, with the Walkman being slightly lighter, so we guess the difference will be in the displays. The iPod Touch boasts a larger display and resolution but what about the quality? Unfortunately we’ve seen neither unit in action, so if you’ve taken a look at either the Sony Walkman X Series or the Apple iPod Touch let us know what you think.

We weren’t too impressed by the Cowon S9 16GB offering just before Christmas and now they’ve released a 32 GB version at least at Amazon. We’re still not too impressed as you’re basically paying over the odds for a touchscreen device but we are hearing great things about AMOLED displays so may be the 32GB S9 is worth a look. Here are the details on the unit

Sporting a 4.3 inch display, Ainol’s latest PMP, the V6000HDB is great value at the equivalent of around US$60. As to whether this little sucker will be available outside of its home country of China is anyone’s guess, but if it does decide to venture to your neck of the woods then it is definitely worth checking out. In the mean time check out the specs

It’s a cool looking unit, the Cowon S9 PMP, but then you’d expect that for a US$240 tagged PMP. You’d also expect a few nice bells and whistles so here they are for you to work exactly how cool the S9 is.

Despite all this we feel US$240 is a tad too high making the Cowon S9 more ho hum than ho ho ho. For example the Cody 30 GB PMP is available for only US$185, admittedly sans touchscreen, but hey $60 so I can get grubby fingerprints all over my viewing screen, I don’t think so, but then may be we’re just old-fashioned kinda guys.

Apparently there’s some big sporting event going down in China soon, so RAmos have decided to try and part visiting spectators with their hard-earned yuan by releasing the T8 iMovie touchscreen PMP. We’re not too sure what the marketing department were smoking when they came up this sucker’s moniker but it certainly boasts some intriguing stats

* 4.3 inch 480×272 res touchscreen display
* 32 GB storage
* Support for RMVB, AVI, FLV, WMV, MPG, MP4, DAT, 3GP video formats
* TV-OUT port

Unfortunately no more bells and whistles are available other than a price tag of 1500 yuan or US$220 for the 32 GB version, with 16 GB and 8 GB options rocking in at US$150 and US$100 respectively.

So if you’re over in Beijing for the Olympics, it may well be worth checking the RAmos T8 iMovie, not a gold medal winner but certainly on the podium.
