Coming to Japan in late October will be the latest notebook offering from Toshiba (the people who brought you HD-DVD snigger, snigger), the Dynabook NX. Probably the most noteworthy thing about the Dynabook NX is the fact that the capacity of the SSD option is almost as large as the standard HDD with the SSD option rocking in at 128 GB whilst the spinning option sports 160 GB of zeroes and ones. Along with potential speed increases and noise reduction, the SSD unit allows you to squeeze and extra hour out of the standard battery. Unfortunately the SSD option will also set you back an extra US$900. If you’re still impressed check out the other details on this puppy.
* 12.1 inch 1200 x 800 WXGA res LED backlit display
* onboard GMA 4500MHD graphics chipset
* Powered by Intel’s SU9300 1.2 GHz Core Duo processor
* 11.5 hours of battery life with the juice friendly SSD option, old-tech HDD will last only 10.5 hours
* 2 GB of memory, expandable up to 3 GB
* black, white and umm pink colour options
* 3 lbs
* DVD multi-drive
* MS Vista Home Premium as standard OS along with Office Personal 2007 and PowerPoint 2007
* 3 USB ports, eSATA port, VGA output and SD card slot
* Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity
The DynaBook NX will be available in Japan in late October and will start at around US$1,900 with the HDD option and reach up to $2,800 if SSD is your bag. Not cheap but Toshiba usually deliver the goods, so expect nothing different from the NX. However whilst the stats add up, I must admit I’d still prefer their touch-friendly Portege M700.

Probably aimed more at the office rather than your home cinema, Dell have released a new high end projector, the 7609WU. Sporting a 1920 x 1200 WUXGA resolution and 3850 lumens, the 7609WU rocks in with a US$5,000 price tag. Ouch! If you’re still keen here are a few more specs on the 7609WU
* DLP® and BrilliantColorTM technology
* 2,700:1 contrast ratio
* Dual VGA, Dual HDMI, DisplayPort, S-Video, Composite Video, RS232 and Audio-in/Audio-Out connections
* Dual 5W speakers
* long lamp life of up to 2000 hours (normal mode)/2500 hours (eco mode)
* Image Size 20.9 - 301.0 inches (diagonal)
* Projection Distance 3.28 to 39.37 ft (1 m to 12 m)
* 432 mm (17.0″) x 290 mm (11.42″) x 135 mm (5.31″)
* 6.08 kg (13.4 lbs)
The unit does offer a nifty ‘eco-mode’ to make you feel green whilst using the unit. This mode reduces power usage by 10% from 454 watts down to 405 watts, increases the lamp life and lowers the noise output. However we’re not sure that’s enough to persuade your bank manager to give you a personal loan to buy the sucker. If you’re keen to check out some more projectors take a look at testfreaks.com.

After what seems like an eternity of waiting, the Google phone is at last here, well at least the website is. The T-Mobile G1 aka Google phone is officially launched later today, but the website popped up on the radar yesterday. Rumour has it, as the website doesn’t yet actually give out any specs, that the G1 will have the following bells and whistles
* 3G network
* 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 inches
* 5.6 oz
* 480 x 320 res HVGA display
* 3.1 Mp camera
* up to 8 GB of memory
* 5 hours of talktime
* 130 hours of standby
Perhaps what more surprising are the specs that are missing, such as video capture, no stereo bluetooth and the pre-requisites such as a GMail account and your local store being within a two to five mail radius of T-Mobile’s 3G coverage! Not really sure what the last item is about, but the overall package is pretty slack really. I’m pretty sure a souped up model will be out soon, so it may be worth hanging on to your cash for a while to see what the next model is like.

Just when you thought large HDTVs were the domain of plasmas, Sharp have come along to try to prove you wrong with a 65 inch AQUOS LCD HDTV, namely the LC-65GX5. This little, or should we say, large sucker is the latest addition to the GX5 range which peaked at 52 inches earlier this year. This latest addition to the family sports the following bells and whistles
* 1080p display
* 15,000:1 contrast ratio
* 450 cd/m2 brightness
* 176 degree viewing angle
* HDMI x3, Composites x3, S-Video and DVI inputs
The LC-65GX5 comes equipped with Sharp’s ARSS 2.1 speaker system. The amp pumps out 7.5 W to each speaker plus 15 W to the sub-woofer. It also features DLNA which means it’ll talk nicely to other DLNA enabled equipment and for photography enthusiasts there’s an infra-red port to send images from your camera straight to the TV.
How about the price tag? The LC-65GX5 is only available in Japan right now and is priced at the equivalent of US$6,500. Not too shabby for a LCD big boy with all the bells and whistles, so we may see the LC-65GX5 gracing a few living rooms over the Christmas period!
