Surfing around the internet we occasionally come across a great deal and if you’re up for a bit of portable disk space then the Western Digital My Passport Essential may be what you’re after. It comes in five capacities starting at 160 GB expanding up to 500 GBs worth of zeroes and ones. There’s a whole raft of colour options too, too numerous to mention here. However here are some hard stats on the Western Digital My Passport external hard drive
* Model WDME5000TN
* Hard Disk Size 160 GB to 500 GB
* 3 year warranty
* Plays nicely with Macs and PCs
* 2.5 inch form factor
* USB 2.0 connectivity
* Spinning at 5400 rpm
* 2 MB Buffer
* 3.1 x 5 x 0.6 inches
* 6.3 Ounces
The My Passport is powered via the USB coonection and there’s no install required, just plug it into a USB port and you’re away. Here’s a price breakdown by capacity courtesy of Amazon listing the chepest colour option for each capacity.
For some reason Amazon don’t want you to buy the 160 GB version, but the rest of the range are nicely priced. So if you’re looking to make your zeroes and ones portable then click on your capacity choice in the table to check out the Western Digital My Passport at Amazon.
As usual if you already have one of these portable HDDs then let us know what you think.
We’re not quite sure how Sanyo define the LP-XU106′s class, describing it as ‘ultra-portable’, but 4,500 lumens is pretty impressive for a 3.4 kg projector. Here are the full details on the Sanyo projector to be launched on the 20th of November
* 1,000:1 contrast ratio
* 275W high-output lamp
* Corner Keystone Correction Function – eliminates the distorted trapezoidal screen image caused by projection at an angle
* Auto Keystone Correction function automatically corrects vertical image distortion, after detecting the slope of the projector
* Wired LAN terminal (RJ-45) enables the control and management of the projector over a network
* 4,500 lumens
* 3.4 kgs
* 40” – 300” screen size
* RCA (Video) x 1; S-Video x 1 inputs
* 334.2 x 78.4 x 257.5 mm
The only price mentioned in the Sanyo press release is 575,400 yen which currently converts to US$6,138. This seems a bizarrely high figure given the US$1600 tag applied to Sanyo’s PLV-1080HD projector back in January, so we’ll hold fire on judgement on the LP-XU106 until we get a definite figure nearer the launch in November.
At a slimline 0.9 inches thick the MSI X600 laptop is certainly a neat little unit considering it still manages to squeeze in the following bits and pieces in its small frame
* 1.4GHz Penryn SFF C2S ULV SU3500 Processor
* 4GB DDR2 SO-DIMM RAM
* 320GB SATA Hard Drive
* Windows Vista Home Premium

* Graphics 512 MB
* 10.03 x 15.4 x 0.9 inches
* 4.6 lbs
The X600 certainly looks the part with that line-up and it has a pretty cool price tag of US$900 too. As usual with slimline laptops, there is no internal optical drive but the rest of the specs certainly look impressive. If you’ve taken a closer look at the MSI X600 then please let us know what you think.

Disk space just seems to be getting cheaper these days, and whilst the Western Digital Caviar Green 1 TB HDD has been out a while, we couldn’t believe the price of US$85 on it at Amazon. If you’re looking to upgrade your HDD then the Caviar seems like a good option with it receiving 4.5 stars out of 5 in customer reviews which tended to promote it’s power efficiency and quietness but highlighted a possible (if negligible) performance loss. For your US$85 you get no cables or power adaptor but if this is to be a replacement unit you may well not require them. Here are some details and specs on the Caviar Green 1TB HDD
* WD has reduced power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to standard desktop drives
* GreenPower technology yields lower operating temperatures for increased reliability and low acoustics for ultra-quiet PCs and external drives
* 1 TB capacity
* 3.5 inch form factor
* 7200 rpm spin speed
* 32 MB Buffer size
* 5.8 x 4 x 1 inches
* 1.6 lbs
Whilst the 1 TB Caviar Green may not be the latest HDD unit on the street, this US$85 deal at Amazon has to be one of the sweetest HDD deals around. That is, of course, unless you know different ….
Having appeared in Japan last month the Dell Vostro All In One desktop has finally landed Stateside. It’s base price is US$600 and rises according to the amount of add-ons you require. Here’s a list of what you get for $600
* Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E5300 (2.60GHz,2MB L2 Cache, 800FSB)
* Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic, Service Pack 1
* LCD Integrated 19″ Widescreen Flat Panel Display
* 8X (DVD+/-RW) Burner Drive
* 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz
* 160GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
* Intel® GMA X4500, Integrated Graphics Card
* 1.3Meg Pix Camera with Digital Microphone
Whilst the specs don’t exactly leap out and grab you, the Vostro AIO is not designed for the top end of the market, aimed squarely at those of us, who want a desktop but not for it to take up large amounts of real estate. Consequently the Vostro AIO user won’t be a high PC user and thus generally won’t need top end specs. We like the unit and think it’ll sell well, if you fancy one swing over to Dell and take a look see.
