Techfrenzy is up and running

March 18th, 2007
Tech Frenzy

We, the staff of Our Picks, are announcing that we’ve started another project to go hand in hand with this one. While this site is a blog-like news site, TechFrenzy.NET is a tech support forum. We’re interested in building a community of members willing to share their knowledge to help others. Etherfast, our phpbb-know-it-all made sure that all the articles on Our Picks are announced there as well.

We divided the forum into two sections: English and Romanian (the languages most familiar to us), but we want to expand it over time so it could be language independent. That means we need your help to build that community; everyone is welcome to join and post questions/answers to the questions already stated.

New look!

January 15th, 2007
opnewlogo

As promised, we are now getting back to you with a complete new design. In the past days we’ve worked hard into concentrating and synthesizing ideas and suggestions related to the look and feel of what you’re actually seeing now.

This own creation template is more simplified than the past one, with our profiles in the right, a link to the Forum, RSS feeds, the article categories and a powerful search function. If you look a bit below, you’ll also see two listing. One with random website posts that you can check at a glance, and the other, a list of the latest 10 discussed forum threads.

We hope you will enjoy this new template at least as you liked the old one. Suggestions and comments are always welcome, here, on the forum or on our mailing list.

Bloggers, heads up! WordPress 2.0.6 released

January 5th, 2007

2.0.6 is the latest release in WordPress’ stable 2.0 line, which theyve committed into maintaining for several more years.

What’s new:
* The aforementioned security fixes.
* HTML quicktags now work in Safari browsers.
* Comments are filtered to prevent them from messing up your blog layout.
* Compatibility with PHP/FastCGI setups.

As a side note, this is probably the last release before 2.1 is out, which will be the first major feature release in quite a while. 2.1 just entered beta stage, so if youre interested in helping out with that process consider joining the beta group. As a reminder, if youre a plugin or theme author you should check your code to make sure its compatible with 2.1 before the release.

You can download the latest WordPress by clicking here.

Poll results - This website was started on a blog-like basics. Should we intend to change the design, what would you prefere?

December 13th, 2006

Today, we have closed the active poll and concluded:

* It doesn’t really matter to me. I love you guys anyway ;) (31%)
* I would like a blog-like website (29%)
* I would rather like the website to look like a portal (23%)
* I would like them both, changeable with a footer link (17%)

Total Votes: 48

Noticing the fact that most of you don’t really put so much points on the aspect, and most of you prefer the blog-like style, we’re not going to do two designs of the website. We’re going to try to give the website a more professional look, and improved user experience.

Thank you for participating, and we invite you all to vote in our new poll.

We would like to thank all of you, because your visits, comments, diggs, votes, poll options that made it worth while. We are eager to extend the site in the near future with a few extra things that will remain secret at this time.
If you never left a comment or if this is your first visit or not, please say ‘hi’ and a few words :). We would like to know our audience better.

The publishers at our-picks.com

And now, a little something from each one of us:

ciops: Hey! I’m a man of a few words, but you can be sure that there’s more behind them. As the webmaster, I would also love to hear your likes and dislikes by comments or mail, things that you don’t like about the layout of the site, features or things you would think will improve our experience. Regards.

Etherfast: Good evening ;) Indeed this is a special day for all of us. Personally, I was thrilled to see the avalanche of comments and visitors in the past days. This can only be a positive thing. We promise to keep the dedication in the future and don’t forget that your opinion matters to us. Happy birtday, Our-Picks!

Brayn: ‘Sup! As Etherfast was saying, we will try to keep the same style and I ask you don’t let us fall on the sin of being too commercial. We like new things an we like to share them with you, so stay tuned for some of the latest news. Be good, stay in school, don’t do drugs!

kNox: Hey, it has been my pleasure to be part of this team so far, and for the past couple of days it has really been made worth while by the activity that you have shown. I hope that this will only be the beginning. As for our part, we’ll always try to be as professional as possible.

Flo: Hi! After a month of our-picks, I can say we did fine, had fun and found out about new stuff. During this time I were a bit inactive, but I promise to catch up! Cheers!
