Sharp launch the AQUOS LC-65GX5 a 65 inch LCD HDTV

September 20th, 2008

Sharp AQUOS LC-65GX5 LCD HDTV

Just when you thought large HDTVs were the domain of plasmas, Sharp have come along to try to prove you wrong with a 65 inch AQUOS LCD HDTV, namely the LC-65GX5. This little, or should we say, large sucker is the latest addition to the GX5 range which peaked at 52 inches earlier this year. This latest addition to the family sports the following bells and whistles

* 1080p display
* 15,000:1 contrast ratio
* 450 cd/m2 brightness
* 176 degree viewing angle
* HDMI x3, Composites x3, S-Video and DVI inputs

The LC-65GX5 comes equipped with Sharp’s ARSS 2.1 speaker system. The amp pumps out 7.5 W to each speaker plus 15 W to the sub-woofer. It also features DLNA which means it’ll talk nicely to other DLNA enabled equipment and for photography enthusiasts there’s an infra-red port to send images from your camera straight to the TV.

How about the price tag? The LC-65GX5 is only available in Japan right now and is priced at the equivalent of US$6,500. Not too shabby for a LCD big boy with all the bells and whistles, so we may see the LC-65GX5 gracing a few living rooms over the Christmas period!

Westinghouse launch vast range of LCD HDTVs

June 5th, 2008

Westinghouse 1080p LCD HDTVs

The boys over at Westinghouse have been busy and this week launched a whole raft of new LCD HDTVs as well as a few other all-in-one units etc. For those of you into that kind of thing, take a deep breath and read on.

First up are three 1080p LCD TVs, namely the TX-42F430S, TX-47F430S and TX-52F480S which are sized unsurprisingly at 42, 47 and 52 inches respectively. All units boast the following bits and pieces

* Inputs - RF, S-Video, YPbPr x 2, HDMI x 4, VGA
* 5,000:1 contrast ratio (1,000:1 on the TX-42F430S)
* 50,000 hrs lamplife
* 176 degree viewing angle both horizontally and vertically
* 2 x 10 Watt speakers (15W on the 52 incher along with a 12W sub-woofer)

The 52 incher also boasts an internal ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM Tuner. Looking for a combo unit? Well the lads have knocked together the VK-40F580D unit with the following bells and whistles

* Inputs - RF, YPbPr x 1, HDMI x 2, VGA
* 1,800:1 contrast ratio
* 50,000 hrs lamplife
* 176 degree viewing angle both horizontally and vertically
* 2 x 10 Watt speakers

whilst also sporting a DVD player. Wait a minute, wot no Blu-Ray love? Tut, tut Westinghouse. Anyway having dropped the ball with that model, they press on and round off the launch with a series of smaller 720p units in the new SK, PT and W ranges.

The W range starts at 26 inches and expands up to 32 with all units boasting the same tuner as in the TX units along with multiple HD inputs. The SK range sports the same functionality as the W but a faster response time and consequently the units are aimed at the gaming market.

Last and by no means least the PT range offers a series of portable units ranging from 16 to 19 inches. Now by the far the most important stat of all, price tags

TX-52F480S $2000 TX-47F430S $1600
TX-42F430S $1200 VK-40F580D $1100
W3223 $700 W2613 $500
SK-32H730S $750 SK-26H730S $600
PT-19H140S $380 PT-16H120S $280

Not shabby, Westinghouse, not shabby at all, affordable HDTVs for all. The specs are not great but at those prices what do ya expect. If you are looking for a cheap entry into HDTV then you can’t go wrong with one of these suckers, enjoy!

LG’s super sleek LG6000 and PG6000 HD TVs

February 19th, 2008

LG LG6000 and PG6000 HDTVs

LG will soon be launching their latest HDTV ranges, the LG6000 and PG6000. These super sexy models were shown off at CES but will be available soon in the UK and hopefully elsewhere not long after. The LCD LG6000 range sports four models a 32, 37, 42 and 47 inch versions, whilst the Plasma PG6000 comes in two flavours, 42 and 50 inch. Here’s the shared features of the two ranges

* 15,000:1 contrast ratio (30,000:1 for plasma)
* 24p Tru Cinema
* Four HDMI 1.3 inputs
* USB 2.0 port for looking at photos or listening to mp3s

The LG6000 range also boast ‘invisible’ Mark Levinson speakers which provide a wider ‘sweet spot’ by creating a virtual wall of sound - hmmm - I’ll believe that when I, err, hear it. Despite the marketing hyperbole, I’m sure LG’s latest HDTV offerings will make the grade. Unfortunately we have no idea whether your bank manager will agree as price tags are not currently available.
