Creative Zen Mozaic DAP out now

Creative Zen Mozaic DAP

I must admit the latest Zen music and video player from Creative, the Mozaic 2GB/4GB DAP, looks kinda funky with its multi-colour controls. But are looks enough to make the masses rush out and buy one of these suckers? Here’s the low down on the specs on the Mozaic to see if it is stampede worthy.

* 2 GB or 4 GB capacity options
* 1.8 inch 128 x 160 res TFT display
* Built-in speaker
* 32 hours of continuous audio playback
* 5 hours of continuous video playback
* Integrated FM radio with 32 pre-sets
* Voice memo recording
* Support for audio formats mp3, wma, wav and Audible 4
* Support for image formats jpeg, bmp, gif, png, tiff
* Alarm clock, calendar and contact features
* 3.1 x 1.6 x 0.5 inches
* 0.1 lbs
* USB 2.0 connectivity

As for price tags, the 2 GB version rocks in at US$60, whilst its bigger brother weighing in at 4 GB will set you back US$80. Both these units compare favourably with the SanDisk Sansa Fuze which on release would have set you back an extra $20 for the same capacities. So going on prices and specs it looks as if good old Creative have come up with a little gem with the Zen Mozaic DAP.

SanDisk’s Sansa Fuze looking good

March 15th, 2008

SanDisk Sansa Fuze

The latest DAP offering from SanDisk, the Sansa Fuze is getting some good reviews around the web, not great but good. It gets a thumbs up from the guys over at anythingbutipod and there’s a nice video to boot. Here’s the low-down on the Fuze

* 3 capacity options, 2, 4 and 8 GB
* 1.9 inch display
* handles mp3, wma, secure wma and wav audio files
* handles mpeg-4 vid
* FM tuner
* microSD slot
* Audio battery life of 24 hours
* Video battery life of 5 hours
* talks nicely with Windows, OS and Linux

The price tag rocks in at US$80 for the 2 GB, jumping up to US$100 for 4 GBs and US$130 for the 8 GB version. The specs are not amazing but coupled with the price tags the Fuze doesn’t look too shabby.

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 6 DAP launched

October 26th, 2007

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 6 DAPThis post isn’t for the fiscally-challenged my friends, so look away now if the inside of your wallet hasn’t seen the light of day for a while. Despite looking sexy and no doubt sporting their usual high standard in sound quality the latest DAP from Bang & Olufsen, the BeoSound 6 will set you back six hundred big ones. I’ll give you a moment to get over the shock …. yes a DAP for more than an iPhone, what are they thinking? Well, quality over quantity as usual with B&O. Your $600 gets you a 4GB mp3 player with 40 hours of battery life, which talks nicely to both Mac and PCs. It sports a small 128 x 160 res screen that doesn’t play vid and comes with a slim fit leather case which conveniently hides the A8 earphones that come with the unit when not in use.

So what about the quality I hear you asking, well according to the blurb

Its superior sound performance rivals that of home audio systems. When compared
to other MP3 players, BeoSound 6 has a very clear and pure CD sound
quality, due to its high performance on signal to noise playback.

Hmm, whilst I’m sure the masses won’t be beating a path to their nearest B&O dealership to pick up one of these puppies, there will be B&O fans out there who’ll be happy spending the pingers on the unit. And just in case those fans do have more money than sense some hard-earned cash left over then they can grab the bluetooth headset EarSet2 for a snip at US$350 too.

If anyone out there does have one of these suckers then let us know if the quality really is worth six hundred dollars.
