SuperTalent’s Exelerator - Improving the view

July 25th, 2007

We all know there are a few issues with Windows Vista, it runs oh so slowly on a ‘standard’ PC, the startup time and it, well, just makes your PC look like a Mac ;)

Fear not, the guys at SuperTalent have come up with the Exelerator, a ReadyBoost drive for your Vista disabled enabled PC. Nothing new, eh? Well the Exelerator sits inside your PC. Yep, no nasty dangly bits hanging from your USB ports, this sucker hides away inside your PC case.

Exelerator

Whilst there it makes use of the Vista ReadyBoost feature which speeds up Vista by using the drive to cache some data rather than the sluggish hard drive.

Now Tom’s Hardware goes into greater detail on how ReadyBoost all hangs together and indeed on how to set up a USB 2.0 ReadyBoost capable drive on your PC. Over at Legit Reviews they too have a great article specifically on how to set up the Execlerator in your PC. However they conclude that unless you have a spare ReadyBoost capable drive lying around then you are better off installing more memory on your PC to get the best RAM bang for your buck.

For the record my USB 2.0 1 GB thumb drive is NOT ReadyBoost capable, which I find quite ironic as I bought it as part of a package when I bought my Vista-shackled laptop. Go figure.

XP and Vista - moving on together

April 20th, 2007

The change from XP to Vista wasn’t as sudden as most would have expected. Despite the craze that has surrounded Microsoft’s newest product, not everybody was ready to drop their former operating system (namely Windows XP, because I doubt many Mac or Linux users made the change) and switch to Vista.

Bill Gates: “Show us your Wow and win a trip around the world”

January 8th, 2007

Gatesvista

For those who don’t know, that’s one of the marketing slogans of Windows Vista. Bill Gates made an invitation to you all to share your Wow. You might be wondering what’s a Wow.

Well, according to Microsoft, the Wow is an instinctive reaction used when you experience the amazing, the incredible, the exhilarating and the only way to express such a feeling. You can browse through the user’s Wows, or you can submit your own.

You’re not doing this in vain though. Microsoft promises to offer a Vista Ultimate PC in every country/region as a prize for the best Wow, and from the all submissions, the best Wow-er will receive a high definition video camera, AND a seven-days trip around the world to see the most stunning vistas, including Sydney’s Harbor Bridge and Opera House, Beijing’s Great Wall, Agra’s Taj Mahal, New York’s Empire State Building and Paris’ Eiffel Tower.

Shocking, isn’t it? Hurry up and submit your “Wow”‘s and you could be the happy winner. Good luck to everyone.
