Get Chit Chatting on your Blackberry

July 13th, 2011

Today we’re taking a look at some software for a change, namely Chit Chat for Facebook from the UK company Athena IT Ltd. The Windows version has been out there for a while, but Athena have just launched a Chit Chat app for your Blackberry. The app is currently available at a special price of $1.99 for those early adopters, and sports a tabbed user interface for handling multiple conversations. There’s nothing worse than having a message meant for your spouse or partner ending up on your boss’s computer screen! The Chit Chat app for your Blackberry ensures that no wires get crossed!

The Blackberry app, just like the Windows versions hooks into your Facebook account and shows all your friends on one tab, with other tabs for current conversations and unread messages. Here are some more features of Chit Chat for the Blackberry

* Customizing Contacts and Conversations on Chit Chat
* One Screen Access to Contacts, Current Conversations, and Unread Messages
* Quick Access to Contacts

In fact Chit Chat is about as customizable as it gets, allowing the user to enable emoticons, choose a wallpaper, amend text size and alter message colour within the application. And I think we all agree that Facebook’s messaging colour scheme is, well, just a little drab?

So what’s $1.99 to add a bit of colour into your life, or at least your messages. If you’re keen as, hop on over to the Chit Chat for Facebook on Blackberry website to read some more about this colourful app.

Blackberry Pearl Flip 8230 at CellularSouth

May 22nd, 2009

CellularSouth Blackberry Pearl Flip 8230

CellularSouth have just unleashed RIM’s Blackberry Pearl Flip8230 handset on their customers. The Flip 8230 sports a US$100 price tag including the usual two year shackle and an online $50 discount. According to the marketing spiel the unit

combines the best of a smartphone with the convenience of a flip form factor. In addition to high-speed data capability, e-mail, a 2-megapixel camera and a video recorder, the Pearl Flip comes preloaded with the BlackBerry App World

How they managed to fit a whole world in there is beyond us ;-) but seriously it’s a definite mid-road product, wannabe smartphone yet trying to appeal to trendy handsets consumers, with even a pink option being available. Anyway to help you decide whether you’d take a chance on the Pearl Flip 8230 here’s the low-down on the specs

* 3G High-Speed Data Capable
* 2.4″, 240×320-pixel internal color display
* 1.6″, 128×160-pixel external color display
* Supports the following e-mail protocols - BlackBerry, POP3, IMAP4, MS OWA, Exchange, Domino, and Groupwise
* Supports the following video formats: MPEG4 Part 2 Simple Profile, H.263 and WMV
* Supports the following audio formats: MP3, MIDI, AMR-NB, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+ and WMA
* 2 Mp camera
* 128MB of memory with microSD card slot
* 3.98″x1.97″x0.69″
* 3.6 ounces
* 3.5 hours of talk-time
* 216 hours on standby
* CDMA 850/1900 MHz
* 3.5mm headphone jack

For those of us who just can’t decide between a trendy cellphone or an app laden smartphone, the Blackberry Pearl Flip 8230 from CellularSouth may just be the answer. US$100 seems a pretty good price for the unit. If you’ve played with one of these suckers let us know what you think.

Blackberry Curve 8350i available at Sprint

April 14th, 2009

Sprint Blackberry Curve 8350i

For only US$150 you can get your paws on a Blackberry Curve 8350i over at Sprint, with the obligatory two-year plan of course. And the 8350i comes without a camera, quite a bizarre move as seemingly all cellphones come with at least a 2Mp image taker these days. But the 8350i does come with the following features and specifications

* QWERTY keyboard
* Send and recive emails
* Wi-Fi connectivity
* 1 GB microSD card
* Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity
* GPS capable
* 320 x 240 res colour display
* 4.4″ x 2.4″ x 0.7″
* 4.7 oz.
* 4 hours of talk time

The standard price is a whopping $480 but after ‘instant savings’ and the mail-in rebate, Sprint can offer the Curve 8350i at an astounding $150. Pretty impressive for a smartphone even if there isn’t a camera.

And just to make things even more interesting here’s the same phone with camera at exactly the same price. You think Sprint would give you at least a small discount if a camera is surplus to your requirements.

Blackberry Curve 8900 at T-Mobile in February

January 7th, 2009

T-Mobile Blackberry Curve 8900

Although not available until February, there’s good news for T-Mobile customers hankering after the Blackberry Curve 8900. Come the second month of the year, the Curve 8900 will be available at T-Mobile sporting the following bells and whistles

* 480 x 360 res 2.44 inch display
* 3.2 mp still and video camera
* QWERTY keyboard
* 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi connectivity
* supports up to 10 email addresses
* built-in GPS
* Media Player supporting DivX, XviD (MPEG4 Advance Simple Profile), H.263, WMV3, .3gp, WAV, MIDI, AMR-NB, G711u/A, GSM610, PCM, MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA9/10 Standard/Pro
* Blackberry Maps
* 109 x 60 x 13.5 mm
* 5.5 hours talktime
* 15 days standby
* Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity

Well, certainly a nice set of specs on the Curve 8900 but unfortunately no price tag yet. Over in Canada, they can get their hands on this little sucker for between $200 and $600 Canadian depending on the associated plan. This price range currently converts to a range of US$170 to US$500. If this simplistic conversion holds true, those prices are bad considering the functionality on the Curve. So start saving now as we think this will sell like the proverbial hot cakes come February!

Free Blackberry Bold at Walmart Online

November 6th, 2008

BlackBerry Bold free at Walmart
Well, sort of - Walmart Online aka LetsTalk are ‘giving away’ RIM’s Blackberry Bold unit along with the usual two year AT&T shackle. Without shackle it’ll set you back a whopping US$700, so is two years worth of AT&T service worth seven hundred smackers? If so you just may want to head on over to Walmart. Just in case you missed it here are the specs on the Bold again before you do

* GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA
* Wi-Fi connectivity
* GPS
* 480 x 320 res LCD display
* 5 hours talktime
* 13 days standby
* 1 GB of onboard memory (expandable)
* 624 MHz CPU
* 128 MB flash memory
* Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity
* 2 Mp camera (still and video)

We can’t find an update on the 3G reception problems we noted previously, so we’re assuming it’s all good now because if the problems still existed we’d definitely be hearing a lot more about them! As to whether it’s the iPhone killer RIM are hoping for the jury are still out. To be honest it looks just a bit under-specced to compete seriously with the iPhone but then again the Bold is free!
