BenQ W1200 DLP Full HD 1080p Home Entertainment Projector

April 25th, 2011

BenQ seem to have hit a nice sweet spot between price and features with their full HD home entertainment projector, the W1200. This DLP projector has a MSRP of $1999 (discounts abound we are sure) and yet, according to Trusted Reviews, displays an outstanding full HD image. Here are the features on BenQ’s W1200 Full HD projector

* Full HD Optimized Optical System
* 1920 x 1080 native resolution
* 1.44 - 2.1:1 throw ratio
* 2500 hours quoted normal lamp life (4000 hours in eco mode)
* 5,000:1 contrast ratio
* 1800 ANSI lumens of brightness
* 20W Speakers & SRS WOW HDTM surround sound
* supports VGA (640 x 480) to WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolutions
* Inputs - component, composite, S-Video, D-Sub PC, HDMI 1.3 x 2
* Ports - USB, RS-232C, IR
* 339 x 139 x 260 mm
* 3.6 kg

Trusted Reviews give the BenQ W1200 Full HD projector a massive 9 out of 10 rating plus a ‘Recommended badge’ with the following pros and cons

Pros - Pictures are very sharp and clean, Colours are intense but believable
Cons - Black levels could be deeper, Fan noise can distract, No vertical image shift

They were very impressed with the image that the projector chucked out and of course image quality is the most important feature on a projector. However we are a bit surprised that it scored a nine given their comment on the fan noise as that’s probably the second most important feature.

If you are keen, you can buy the BenQ W1200 over at Amazon for around $1600 at the moment.

BenQ GP1 JoyBee Mini Projector

May 26th, 2009

BenQ JoyBee GP1 Mini Projector

BenQ have just unleashed a cute mini-projector, the JoyBee GP1. Whilst the specs are nothing to blab about, the GP1 certainly wins hands down on portability. It weighs in at 1.4 pounds or around 640g, which is certainly light enough to be considered portable and also you don’t need a laptop or PC to show off your latest pics or vids. Simply plug a USB stick with the appropriate media into the JoyBee GP1 and away you go! Pretty impressive eh? Here are the rest of the details on the GP1 if you’re interested

* SVGA 858 x 600 res
* 100 ANSI lumens
* 3LED (RGB) technology
* 2000:1 contrast ratio
* 4:3 Native, 16:9 Selectable Ratios
* 15” to 80” images size
* Handles VGA(640 x 480) to SXGA(1280 x 1024)
* Handles 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i
* Inputs include Component Video, Composite Video, USB reader
* 136 x 54 x 120 mm
* USB reader handles JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, MPEG-1, MJPEG, MPEG-1 layer 2, PCM file formats

As we said, nothing exceptional here, in fact downright ugly, apart from the size, weight and USB reader functionality. All in all we do like the BenQ GP1 JoyBee, it certainly fills a niche, not sure how big the market is but at only US$500 it could be a big one.

BenQ Joybook R45 unleashed

April 17th, 2008

BenQ R45 Joybook

Whilst I’m not too convinced about the moniker Joybook, a laptop in leather certainly looks the part. BenQ’s latest Joybook, the R45 whilst sporting leather binding also boasts a nice list of specs too

Specs

* Intel® Core™2 Duo processor T8100
* Windows Vista Home Basic/Home Premium/Business
* nVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M G graphics
* DDR2-667 512MB memory (up to 4GB)
* 120 GB HDD (up to 250 GB)
* 8x DVD Burner
* 14.1 inch 1280 x 800 res WXGA display
* 4 x USB 2.0 ports
* RJ-45 ethernet port
* HDMI output port
* Built-in 2 MP web cam
* 6 cell lithium-ion battery giving 53 Whrs for an approx 2.5 hrs duration
* 802.11 b/g wireless connectivity
* Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity
* 340 x 246 x 33.4 mm

Unfortunately the key spec, the price tag, is conspicuous by its absence so we will reserve judgment until we find that out. Not only that but this sucker is likely to be unavailable in the US whilst most of Asia and Russia will be able to enjoy it’s leather bound qualities in April this year. Despite these limitations the BenQ R45 certainly has all the bells and whistles and of course that luxuriant leather covering!
