LG will soon be launching their latest HDTV ranges, the LG6000 and PG6000. These super sexy models were shown off at CES but will be available soon in the UK and hopefully elsewhere not long after. The LCD LG6000 range sports four models a 32, 37, 42 and 47 inch versions, whilst the Plasma PG6000 comes in two flavours, 42 and 50 inch. Here’s the shared features of the two ranges
* 15,000:1 contrast ratio (30,000:1 for plasma)
* 24p Tru Cinema
* Four HDMI 1.3 inputs
* USB 2.0 port for looking at photos or listening to mp3s
The LG6000 range also boast ‘invisible’ Mark Levinson speakers which provide a wider ’sweet spot’ by creating a virtual wall of sound - hmmm - I’ll believe that when I, err, hear it. Despite the marketing hyperbole, I’m sure LG’s latest HDTV offerings will make the grade. Unfortunately we have no idea whether your bank manager will agree as price tags are not currently available.

If you’re keen as to get your hands on an LG Venus from Verizon then head on over to their website for your pre-order today for the November 19th release of the black version. A pink version will appear on December 11th. US$200 will get you one of these suckers along with an accompanying two year plan, a standalone version will set you back $350.
So what about the bells and whistles? Well here’s the low-down
* 2 mp camera
* microSD storage up to 8 GB
* stereo bluetooth support
* plays nicely with MP3, WMA, AAC, & AAC+ formats
* speakerphone
* touch screen for system navigation
So nothing major really and $200 seems a pretty standard figure (with a two year plan) for these kind of phones at the moment. So unless you’re desperate for one, I’d wait until the Christmas rush to see if prices tumble.

Another snippet from the FPD International 2007 showcase. LG are showing off their latest ‘G Platform’ plasma TVs that sport a staggering contrast ratio of 30,000:1. This is double the current 15,000:1 ratio of their existing HD plasma TVs and according to the blurb
G Platform panels are capable of reproducing exceptionally true colors across the entire spectrum, including even deep blacks with a 20 percent reduced reflection rate. In contrast to existing black panels, which are able to improve colors on the screen only by using clear black-colored panels, LG has improved color reproduction by optimizing the panels’ color phosphors and utilizing dielectrics.
The ‘G Platform’ will be available in 32, 42 and 50 inch 720 HD models plus 50 and 60 inch 1080 HD versions. No pricing on these suckers as yet, but I’m guessing you’d better start saving now!

The Empire Strikes Back, well at least Verizon do, with the LG Voyager and a nifty piece of kit it looks too. In fact Verizon will launch four iPhone beating (so they hope) devices just in time for the holiday season, including the very sexy LG Voyager aka the VX10000.
So what’s the low down on the Voyager? It sports a 400 x 240 res touchscreen interface, a 2 MP camera, supports mp3, wmv, and aac tunes and has room for an 8 GB microSDHC card.
But what I like the most about the Voyager is when you flip open the unit, you get a secondary (non-touchscreen) display and a full QWERTY keypad. For me this is probably the most convenient and aesthetically pleasing layout for my mobile device. Whilst neatly folded up it looks like a snazzy touchscreen phone yet open the sucker up and you have a nice looking keypad and second screen for email etc. I’ve yet to be convinced by mobile device manufacturers who insist on squeezing a QWERTY layout onto either a touchscreen (a la iPhone) or have it laid out width ways (a la Blackberry) - surely the most comfortable layout is length ways?
Anyway, whether you agree with me or not, you must admit the Voyager is a steal at $250 and certainly looks the part.

Whilst the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray format war rages on, there are still some manufacturers telling us to ‘give peace a chance’. So for those of us who want to sit on the fence and have the best of both worlds
LG have kindly launched the
BH200, their second generation combined
Blu-Ray and
HD-DVD player. For those of you who have already invested in the BH100, here are the extra bells and whistles that you’re missing out on ;)
* The HD-DVD has played catch up and now has the HDi features of the Blu-Ray
* The Blu-Ray portion features the latest Java functionality such as storyboards
* There’s an ethernet connection for Internet features
* HDMI 1.3 output
* 1080p res at the oh-so important 24 fps
The BH200 will also set you back US$1000 slightly less than the BH100 was originally released for, but presumably still more than what a BH100 will now cost you assuming the BH100s are even still for sale!
These dual-format units are obviously targeting the hesitant and indecisive and the manufacturers are also hoping consumers will ignore the fact that the players cost more than twice the price of a single format player. So whilst they may be the way of the short-term (peaceful) future, with such prohibitive price tags I’m not so sure they are the long term answer. However imagine if a manufacturer released a dual format player that was only say 25% more than a cheap single-format player, now that could bring ‘peace in our time’!
