Possibly the cheapest cellphone around, the Verizon Wireless Coupe rocks in at a measly US$20 plus a two year contract of course. However with such a low price tag it comes without all the bells and whistles, so yes it’s a cellphone on which you just make phone calls, sort of retro without the retro look fortunately.
So what does the Coupe give you for your twenty bucks, well, it boasts a colour screen, speakerphone, texting and voice dialling. It also has three big red ICE (In Case of Emergency) keys just below the display which can be programmed with emergency numbers such as a family member, friend or local pizza delivery firm ;)
Along with the ICE keys and a ’simplified menu with large font’ the Coupe is obviously aimed at the more mature consumer, this kind of limited functionality would only keep a teen occupied for about 5 seconds before the phone ends up in the trash. Nice idea having three emergency numbers programmed into large obvious keys and there’s a separate button for 911 as well. The unit is colour-coded with the volume controls being white, the charging port cover red and the headset port blue.
So if you’re trying to think of a suitable gift for an elderly family member the Coupe could just be the answer.
There appears to much ado about the latest cellphone offering from HTC called ‘Touch’ in the tech blog world at the moment. It’s being touted as a potential competitor to the iPhone and with its whizzy ‘TouchFLO’ technology you may think that HTC are onto something here. Certainly a few sites believe so

HTC’s touch-screen handset could give iPhone a run for its money
HTC Corp. has just launched the HTC Touch, a smartphone whose fingertip-oriented control system was clearly created to compete with Apple’s iPhone.
However I’m not so easily convinced, sure the Touch looks good in ‘wasabi’ and ’soft black’ colour choices but what about the numbers, how does it really stack up against the iPhone. Well let’s take a peek at them shall we?

Sure the Touch is smaller and lighter but at the guts of it there’s less memory for your tunes and less visual display for your vids. The final kicker, how much moola will I have to part with to be Touched? It will sell in Europe for 449 Euros which is about US$600, the price of an 8GB iPhone. Hmmm, brave try HTC but I don’t think Apple execs will be Touching the alarm button with this release. Roll on June 29th.
The guys in the marketing department at Nokia have gone overboard on their latest cellphone, the 8600. With such adlines as ‘Inspired by moonlight, it pulsates with allure.’ and ‘Dark brillance’ you just gotta wonder what they are smoking. However the phone does look pretty damn sexy with its smoked glass slider over the keyboard and stainless steel back. If you don’t believe me check out this video - one quick note on the video for the UK viewers I’m not totally convinced by the GBP79.99 label at the end of the clip as this puppy is advertised at $800 in the US. Check out the video anyway.
For those of us more interested in hard facts than snazzy marketing spiel here’s some raw data to get your teeth into

Actually the phone’s spec isn’t necessarily that impressive but you’re sure gonna look the part making ‘business’ calls on this puppy at your local up-market eatery.
With much fanfare across the tech and gadget blog world, the Motorola RAZR 2 was launched on Tuesday. The new version of the incredibly popular (almost 100 million sold worldwide) yet highly criticized RAZR has had a complete redesign of its UI and has slimmed down a further 2mm (GSM and CDMA versions). It can handle up to 2GB of memory to hold your tunes and the touchscreen UI incorporates ‘haptics’ technology - the internal display vibrates in response to finger taps.
The RAZR 2 boasts two displays, a 2 inch external and a 2.2 inch internal, operates Motorola’s Linux-based platform JUIX and will sync with Windows Media Player. All in all a smart little cookie. But how much of a dent will it make in your wallet? Motorola decided to keep quiet on that statistic but the rumors are around $500. If that’s true it’s probably not a iPhone beater but it’ll still sell well on the back of the original’s reputation alone. As an aside Motorola shares closed down at $17.92 a drop of 1.3 percent after the launch.
Just in case after the last post you thought we were incapable of finding any decent videos on Youtube, we spotted this video review of the Motorola ROKR E6. Nice review by Phone Dog but as he says probably still best to wait until the iPhone is released in June.
