Back to the home theatre arena today with a look at Pioneer’s VSX-1021-K 7.1 channel receiver. One of the top features on this receiver is its ability to talk nicely with Apple products using ‘AirPlay’ to stream music from an iTunes on another networked machine. The Pioneer VSX-1021-K also comes with a handy USB/video cable for the iPod, iPhone and iPad so any media on your Apple portable toys is easily available for the receiver. Of course the unit still stands up as a great receiver for those of us non-Apple fan-boys with HDMI 1.4a 3D ready connectivity, support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and DLNA 1.5 certification for full home netwrok integration. If all these things tickle your fancy then read on!

Not convinced by this Blu-Ray malarkey? Or just after a spare DVD player for your old collection? Then for not much more than the price of a DVD, you can buy the Sony DVP-SR200P/B DVD player. This single tray model sports 480p output, playback of most DVD formats and 12 Bit Video DAC with 108Mhz Processing.

At just a touch over three hundred dollars the ViewSonic PJD5123 SVGA projector
seems like a steal to us. The DLP, 2700 lumens projector throws out a 800×600 res display with 3000:1 contrast. Of course the PJD5123 is not going to satisfy the HD home theatre enthusiast but if you’re after a cheap projector with reasonable features ViewSonic’s PJD5123 may just be the ideal model.

We like Onkyo gear, we’ll confess that now. So needless to say we’re drooling over their latest addition, the BD-SP809, to their Blu-Ray player range. It’s got all the bells and whistles you’d expect, such as 3D support, USB connectivity, networking and online streaming plus a reasonable price tag of $599
.

Our Picks verdict
Whilst the TC-P55ST30 generally gets glowing reviews, the main negatives mentioned are picture quality and sound quality probably the two most important considerations when buying an HDTV. Sure the models with better quality will cost you more, but it’s the viewing experience that matters the most with an HDTV. So we’re afraid to say it gets a thumbs down from us. Of course if you have a VIERA TC-P55ST30 already in your living room, let us know what you think of it.
An average score of 4 out of 5 based on these 4 reviews.

Today we’re taking a quick peek at a small HDTV from Philips, the 22PFL4505D, which sports a 22 inch LED LCD 720p display and consequently will fit neatly into just about any room in your home. The model also features TruSurround sound to somehow squeeze 5.1 channels from the two speakers, Pixel Plus HD and multiple connections. However possibly the standout item on the Philips 22PFL4505D HDTV is the price tag of $179. Who can say no to that?

Our Picks verdict
The Philips 22PFL4505D LCD HDTV isn’t the biggest HDTV in the world and doesn’t sport all the features you may expect from a HDTV, but it does fit neatly in small spaces and only makes a small dent in your wallet. We give it a thumbs up!
