As we haven’t talked about external hard drives for a while, we thought we’d weigh back into that arena with a 5TB big boy from Seagate, the Expansion 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0. Currently over at Amazon these things are selling like hot cakes for a mere US$130.

Seagate Expansion Desktop Reviews

Amazon – 4.4 out of 5
CNet – 4 out of 5
NewEgg – 3 out of 5

Mixed reviews around the web for the Seagate Expansion Desktop 5TB Hard Drive. So let’s take a look at some of the cons, CNet don’t like the bundled Dashboard software, while customers at NewEgg highlight a reliability issue with one unit failing instantly when it was first used. Despite an overall 4.4 review score at Amazon, there are still plenty of one star reviews stating reliability as an issue.

We’re afraid to say the Seagate Expansion Desktop 5TB Hard Drive gets a thumbs down from the team at Our Picks – “Buyer Beware”!
