The Xyron Design Runner is probably world’s coolest creative tool. The PrintBrush is the smallest printer ever made that can print full size format (A4 or letter size). Featuring the RMPT full technology, this gadget is expected to launch within one year from now. It will retail around $200 and in many ways, it will be even better than stationary printers or other so called “mobile” printers. For example, it will be possible to print directly in notebooks or other media that would never fit into a conventional printer device. It will also be completely silent allowing you to print during ongoing meetings, etc. On top of all that, no wires, no cables, no mess.

New data transmission speed record: 107 Gb per second

Good news. The Siemens representatives in Germany have beaten the previous data transmission speed record (42,8GB/s). They have set a new speed record for electrical processing of data through a fiber-optic cable, opening the possibility of cheaper Internet and data networks.

Siemens declared that they had processed the data using electrical means only, and they managed to achieve a transfer rate of 107 gigabits per seconds. That’s just about a bit more than two full DVDs. The huge amount of data was sent over a single optical fiber channel, across an 161 kilometers (100 U.S miles) network, physically located in U.S. They have also declared that this was the actual first time they have tried this outside a controlled environment (e.n laboratory).

This comes as a great response to the fact that the online games, music and video downloads are generating increased amounts of Internet traffic, thus creating a need for ever faster and affordable transmission rates. The advantage of this transfer method is that it uses electrical processing only, and that has removed the need of splitting the signal into smaller “pieces”, and by that the bottlenecks are avoided, resulting a higher speed and less expensive connection.

“Such a system would be particularly interesting for the future 100-Gigabit Ethernet on which the telecommunication providers are currently working. We are expecting the first products based on this prototype to hit the market within a few years.”

Ethernet networking technology powers the vast majority of local computer networks, such as corporate networks, but is increasingly important for larger networks, due to its flexibility, as the technology becomes cheaper, and that’s why I personally believe this will be gladly welcome.
