HP are certainly quick off the mark to produce some hardware offering USB 3.0 connectivity. On the i7 processor versions of their Envy 15 laptop you’ll be able to hook up all those whizzy USB 3.0 gadgets to the unit, like the Brando SATA adaptor. Of course the HP Envy 15 comes with a few other bells and whistles, here’s the low-down on the ‘recommended’ configuration
* Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
* Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
* 6GB DDR3 System Memory
* 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
* 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5830 Graphics
* 15.6″ diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366×768)
* External Tray Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support with 2 USB Ports
* Webcam
* Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
That little lot will set you back $2195 which isn’t cheap but then again the unit does sport some nice features on top of the USB 3.0 connectivity. Of course if you get one of these suckers then you’ll have to hope your wallet can handle the strain of all those shiny new USB 3.0 devices out there! For the record USB 3.0 connectivity allows data speeds of up to 5 Gbps plus handling more power thus reducing charging time.
There are some reviews out there which do mention an issue with battery life on the HP Envy 15, so for further info check out Gizmodo, CNET (3.5 out of 5) and Laptopmag (2.5 out of 5).
And of course, if you already have one of these suckers let us know what you think in the comments below.

* Windows XP Home SP3
* Intel Atom Processor N270 (1.60GHz, 512KB L2, 533Mhz FSB)
* 1GB DDR3 System Memory
* 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
* NVIDIA ION LE with a 5-in-1 Digital Media slot

An external Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer will set you back an additional $125, and with HP Mobile Broadband you can sign up to a Verizon, AT&T or Sprint plan and get connected where ever coverage exists. At US$400 the unit seems a bit on the pricey side especially when compared to the similar Hannspree HannsNote which is now available at Amazon for $300
- the Hannspree unit sports a smaller screen, less weight, less battery time and 802.11n connectivity. But of course other outlets may be discounting the Mini 311.

Looks like HP have jumped on the mini laptop bandwagon with the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC aimed fairly and squarely at students
“HP listened to our needs and now is delivering a product designed by education for education,” said Chris Sieger, director of information technology for Alexandria City Public Schools in Virginia. “Teachers and technology are the two most important assets in education. HP’s announcement demonstrates that it understands what schools need from industry.”
So would your average non-student be interested in their latest offering? Check out the specs on the educationally minded 2133
* sturdy and lightweight aluminium casing
* full-sized qwerty keyboard
* 8.9 inch 1280 x 768 res display
* 1.18 kg
* 1.0 GHz cpu
* 4 GB of flash
* 512 MB of RAM
All that will set you back US$500, whilst an extra US$250 will get you a 1.6 GHz processor, 120 GB HDD and Vista Business. We checked out a few reviews and all seemed generally favourable with jkontherun and notebooks.com giving it a thumbs up and notebookreview.com whilst being positive were not exactly gushing either. So HP could have a hit on their hands with the 2133 Mini-Note laptop.
