We could only find one online review of this new Mini 210 over at PC Mag where they gave the 1142CL 3.5 stars out of 5. They stated a dodgy touchpad, badly placed memory slots and its looks as negatives whilst the Mini 210’s fast HDD, large battery and competitive pricing as positives.

When comparing specs, this netbook offers a lot for the money. Initial setup was straight forware. Battery must be removed to access SIM slot. Vanity cover on bottom is easily removed to access RAM and blow out dust from fan and heat sink. Overall performance is what I expected, it’s an Atom powered netbook, what do you expect. Display is very good, touchpad leaves a lot to be desired. I decided to use an external wirelss mouse, forget the touchpad. Battery life so far is 6.5 hours, showing 10% left. I’m presently running Prime95 on it and expect it to be 0% within 20 minutes. 9 hours seems realistic doing normal computing. BIOS is set to have fan on all the time. Installed MS Office 2007 Ultimate, w/o issue. Uninstalled all the other trial additions. NOTE: The netbook comes with a 60 day trial of Norton from HP and also a 180 trial from Costco. Use the 60 day trial frist, then activate the 180 day Costco trial. If you activate the Costco trial right away, you’ll lose the 60 day HP trial. Norton does’t add the 180 days to the existing expiration date. Norton needs to change this policy. Overall, the netbook works well. Does not do a good job playing full HD video, 720p was good. Manged to play standard def video playback while running Prime95 without video hiccups.

Hi Joe, thanks for the feedback. I use an HP netbook and have ditched the touchpad for a wireless mouse too. They’re pretty cool now they have a short USB stub.

9 hours battery life seems pretty good too, mine seems to top out at 4 hours but then again it depends what you use it for.

Anyone else got a view on the HP Mini 210-1142CL?
