Marantz UD6004 Blu-Ray Player

When someone mentions Marantz at Our Picks two other words spring to mind for us, quality and expense. Unfortunately they go hand in hand when it comes to Marantz gear and their latest Blu-Ray player offering, the UD6004 is certainly no exception, rocking in at US$6000 and whilst we haven’t seen/heard a UD6004 in action, the bells and whistles alone scream top notch audio/video gear. Here a list of what you will get in the Marantz UD6004 box for your hard-earned $6000

* Ethernet connectivity
* Profile 2.0
* plays nicely with CD, SACD, DVD Audio and of course Blu-ray
* two Sharc Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) are included for the ultimate in HD Audio decoding
* Dual HDMI outputs
* 36-bit Deep Color
* leading-edge 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset, with a 297MHz/14-bit Video DAC
* internal decoding of Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio
* 7.1 analog outputs
* SD card reader, an RS232C interface and an Ethernet connection for BD-Live content

The press release gushes forth on the UD6004 thus

The Marantz flagship UD9004 represents the pinnacle of home entertainment audio and video reproduction – a single source component that features true universal compatibility and world-class performance from virtually all of today’s most advanced video and audio formats. Built using the highest quality materials and craftsmanship to virtually eliminate mechanical distortion, the UD9004′s extensively braced chassis features a thick bottom plate with machine milled copper feet, sustaining mechanical stability and therefore sound quality.

So if that is to be believed, you’re getting a pretty high-end Blu-Ray player with the Marantz UD6004, but it will be interesting to see how many of these units sell given the current economic climate. If by any chance you have laid out the readies for one of these bad boys, please let us know what you think.
