Vizio VP505XVT 50 inch plasma

We confess, we missed this sucker when Vizio unleashed it on the world last July. However PC magazine have brought us up to date with a review of the VP505XVT. And it gets a big thumbs up or at least a 4 out of 5 rating from them. Whilst they don’t exactly rave over the VP505XVT, they do like its price tag at US$1500, as do we! That makes this 50 inch unit one of the most affordable large plasmas around. So what do you get for your money? Here are the bits and pieces on the VP505XVT.

* 50 inch 1080p 16:9 plasma display
* Four HDMI 1.3 inputs, one component video input plus a VGA input
* Handles 1080p24 format thru its HDMI ports
* SRS TruSurround HD audio
* 30,000:1 contrast ratio
* Handles 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p formats
* 178 degree viewable angle
* 5.1 SPDIF Digital Optical Audio output

PC Magazine were impressed with the VP505XVT’s upscaling ability

Equipped with the highly acclaimed HQV video-processing technology, the VP505XVT upconverts standard-definition video to the TV’s native 1080p resolution with better clarity and fewer distracting artifacts than any other plasma we’ve tested.

but had misgivings over it’s picture quality

Despite the set’s being slightly too colorful in output

However, the price tag snagged it for them at US$1,500, which is $1,000 below the Pioneer PDP-5020FD Kuro. And we must agree, as large plasmas go, the VP505XVT is probably one of the better valued ones out there.

If you’re still not convinced how about $1,300? That’s right head over to Katerno and snag this little sucker for a $200 discount, but that’s only until the 30th of this month!

    Got it for Christmas and it is amazing. I was leading toward waiting for the 55 inch LCD but either way Vizio’s plasma is awesome.
