Philips Blu-Ray player BDP-7310

Expect at least three new Blu-Ray players this year to sport the Philips branding, namely the BDP-3010, BDP-5010 and BDP-7310 all of which will upscale oh so boring standard definition DVDs. As for other specs and features we decided to split them out for ya.

BDP-3010 coming in April for US$230

* Profile 1.1
* SD card slot

BDP-5010 coming in April for US$250

* Profile 2.0 with BD-Live
* SD card slot
* users may require SD card to be able to use BD-Live with some content

BDP-7310 coming in May for US$300

* Profile 2.0 with BD-Live
* SD card slot with 1 GB card
* support for DivX and AVCHD

We must admit, why the hell three units? Surely just the top-end unit would suffice? Who’s gonna buy the other two, especially as the street prices will be a lot lower than the marked price tags? Oh well, we’re sure Philips have a plan, but back to the units. Certainly the BDP-7310 looks the business if you can hang on to May, otherwise give the others a miss.
