Are iPods still considered gadgets?
December 6th, 2006
Weird. Earlier today, when I was writing the article on iPods, I was put in the position of selecting an appropriate post category. I ticked Hardware at first. Then I thought… This could fit under gadgets as well. The next thing that passed through my mind was the dilemma I was facing. So my mind flew back instantly to the time when the latest generation mobile phones were considered gadgets, until they filled out the market. The gadget ability of those devices turned into necessity over night.
Therefore I could make a definition for a Gadget, despite the one currently spread out by Wikipedia. A gadget can be a technical something that only few people are having. If many people have it, it transforms into a necessity.
And now, back to our question. Are the iPods still gadgets, or they’re so popular that we can start considering them a necessity? I’m curious of your opinions, and I’d like you to share them with us.
