SCR-CD001 or how to get rid of all that illegal software

“SCR-CD001 data destroyer will render any CD/DVD unreadable within five seconds.” that’s what Elcom, the manufacturer of this somewhat handy gadget says. If you ever need to render a CD/DVD completely useless you can use this small, ( 60×20×50 millimeters ) light ( 130 grams) device that uses any USB connection that can supply 500mA and comes with a price of approx. US$26.72 .
Besides the fact that is somewhat small, portable and stylish this device is quite useless, I mean it can do 12 CDs/DVDs in 1 minute (that’s if you move fast). Well i can smash more with a hammer in the same amount of time, but then again maybe the targeted market segment for this gadget prefers more delicate ways of handling things.

Actually… i don’t even believe it works… a microwave oven would do the trick for a couple hundred CDs/DVDs at once anyway ;)

will not hurt a microwave.
I’ve tried it in a microwave. It’s true, it doesn’t harm the microwave, but it does stink out your kitchen with the smell of burning plastic.
