Video Malware

November 19th, 2006

Inventive attackers have discovered a new type of files that can be infected: videos. This week, McAfee antivirus company found out about a new worm (W32/Realor). The infected video files do not exploit the system themselves, but instead they contain a hyperlink to a malicious website, that deals with the computer through a flaw in Internet Explorer (that was latterly patched).

The virus didn’t spread far, because it started on the same day when Microsoft released patches for several security vulnerabilities.

Considering this, you should start regarding every file as potential infected ones… never know what these people might think of next!
