MMORPG @ it’s best

Even now I remember my first experience in MMORPG (MMORPG stands for Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), I was with a friend and we were looking for some online game to play when we stumbled on this 2D, very simple game with a 2MB client. We create a account and login and the first thing we see (that i will never remember) was a couple of pixelized players, one following the other and yelling : “Give me my spears back NOW!”. Well it looks like the MMORPG world evolved quite a bit from that stage, famous titles like World of Warcraft, Guild Wars or Star Wars Galaxies made history. If some grew more and more becoming more prosperous other had a spectacular start but failed to please the players (take Star Wars Galaxies for example that fell in disgrace due to the lack of balance among races).

I think (and most romanians may agree) that a major part of this king of games that can’t be cracked is the cost.When I say they can’t be cracked I want to say successfully cracked, take WoW for example, there are thousands of pirate servers anyone can join but there are few players, your character could be deleted over night, and experience is practically given away so characters can advance very easy.

Talking about money, some games went for a classic monthly fee solution, other like Guild Wars only charged the game purchase price but no monthly fee and finally others like Silkroad are completely free.

Talking about Silkroad, it’s a nice game, my new discovery. The graphycs are good for a MMORPG and the game works fine even on ‘High’ detail using a broadband connection. There are some problems like the lack of the ‘retry’ button when connecting to the server, or the fact that the game crashes when you are disconnected. And because we are talking about the downs I believe the items are not varied enough, I only changed one set of armor from level 1 to level 10. But the community is growing and the games is quite captivating, given the fact that it’s free i’d say its one of the best MMORPG’s out there if you are saving money.
But the best way to decide is to try for yourself, and that’s exactly what i urge you to do!
